Description

www.capitalareafoodbank.org
Founded in 1980 on Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday, we are the largest, nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington Metropolitan area. Since that time, we have made tremendous strides to expand our services and annually distribute nearly 30 million pounds of food to more than 478,000 people through our invaluable network of partner agencies. We are committed to uplifting those in need, providing the best services possible, and helping those who are without the means to help themselves.

Beginning with the dream of helping to feed area residents who are facing or at risk of hunger, our mission has grown into so much more. The Capital Area Food Bank works to educate, empower and enlighten the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition. Our community-building initiatives, including Kids Cafe, Weekend Bag, Face Hunger, From the Ground Up, Sister Hook-Up, Produce for People, and the Brown Bag Program, educates the community about the importance of healthy diets and advocates for public policies that serve the interests of our constituencies.
